Use the unused space – Top 10 tidy tips

18 May

Looking to make use of the empty space around the house. Here’s 10 helpful hint to make use of that empty unused space.

1. Use your kitchen splash back and spare wall space to hang utensils.

2. Find inexpensive, brightly coloured plastic tubs to store children’s toys.

3. Look for furniture pieces that serve a multiple – purpose – an ottoman with storage inside, a sofa or bed with built-in shelving, kids’ bunk beds with shelving and drawers or a coffee table with draws are a great option.

4. Stack vintage suitcases for a chic alternative to storing linen, books or winter clothing.

5. Collect old-fashioned wooden milk crates from flea markets to store jars in the kitchen or magazines in the living room.

6. Keep old jam, coffee and other glass jars for storage around home and the office. Simply stick the lid of your jar under a shelf and fill the jars with paperclips, rubber bands, toothbrushes and other home and stationery items.

7. Use a horizontal coat rack for shoe storage. This is a great way to save space inside your cupboards or in the garage.

8. In the laundry hang a cluster of baskets in different shapes and sizes to store laundry items, spare towels and shoes.

9. Stack colourful storage cubes in a sculptural grouping for books, kids’ toys and knick-knacks. Be sure to chose colours that compliment your room and colours.

10. Turn your shoes and accessories into art. If you don’t have the room for all your treasured accessories in your bedroom, put them on display in different areas of your house, the book case, TV cabinet or shelves around your house. This makes your treasures both wearable and art.
